Resolution to Save Our Democracy
Whereas, on January 6th the United States Capitol Building was attacked by extremist mobs
encouraged by former President Donald J. Trump to affect the conduct of the government by
mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and,
Whereas, the Select House Committee on January 6th continues to reveal the depth and
gravity of an attempted coup to overturn the U.S. elections in 2022 by our trusted elected
officials; and,
Whereas, prominent Members of Congress and other officials continue to openly plan
submission of the 2024 elections to institutions not bound by the votes of the American People,
and may become a case which is heard by the Supreme Court of the United States; and,
Whereas, weekly attacks by these same white supremacist extremists who participated on
January 6th, 2021, continue to recruit, organize, and have begun a campaign against Pride
events and other LGBTQIA+ events which have amounted to weekly instances of intimidation
and terror on LGBTQ communities, most prominently demonstrated by Couer D’Alene, Idaho;
Therefore be it resolved that for the safety of our Senators and Representatives and for the
security of all our liberties and the safety of marginalized communities, the 1st District
Democrats urge the Department of Justice to designate acts performed by the Oathkeepers,
Patriot Front, Proud Boys, and the Three Percenters (“III%”) on the January 6th Insurrection be
identified as domestic terrorism; and,
Be it further resolved that the 1st District Democrats urge Attorney General Merrick Garland
and the Department of Justice to charge and prosecute all officials involved with the January 6th
events, including the former President, to the fullest extent of the law, and Congress should
further ensure any official involved who has sworn an oath to the Constitution is barred from
office as expressed in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment; and
Be it finally resolved that a copy of this resolution be sent to WA State’s Congressional
Delegation, the President of the United States, Attorney Merrick Garland, and the Department of
Justice.
